27 Army soldiers killed in NPA ambush in Isabela
February 13, 2005

Up to 27 fascist troops belonging to Charlie Company of the Philippine Army 45th IB were killed and three seriously wounded in an ambush by NPA Red fighters on January 24 in Sitio Kayangading, Dicamay Uno, Jones, Isabela, according to belated reports from the NPA Benito Tesorio Command operating in southern Isabela.

The report contradicts earlier statements by the military that “three or ten” NPA fighters have been slain and that AFP casualties consisted of only three wounded soldiers in a series of firefights that have allegedly been raging in the area since January 24.

In a separate statement, Fortunato Camus Command (NPA-Northeastern Luzon) spokesperson Victor Servidores disclosed that the ambushed Philippine Army unit was part of a larger contingent under the 502nd Brigade that had been conducting massive military operations in the towns of Jones, Echague and San Guillermo several days prior to the NPA offensive.

At that time, an NPA platoon in the area was conducting a campaign against large-scale logging operations, urging and organizing the people to defend the remaining woodlands of the Forest Region to prevent the occurrence in Isabela of the floods, landslides and other calamities that devastated Aurora and Quezon provinces late last year.

On the day of the ambush, three Philippine Army platoons were conducting house searches in Barrio Dicamay Uno. At around 7 a.m., the AFP detached a platoon to scour the nearby forested area. Unknown to them, the NPA was waiting in ambush after receiving prompt reports from the masses about the enemy’s movements.

The NPA commenced firing at around 7:20 a.m., immediately inflicting a big number of casualties on the enemy. The two other Philippine Army platoons stationed nearby tried to extend support by pounding the NPA position with heavy mortar and rifle fire.

The enemy bombardment failed to deter the Red fighters from the ambush. The gunbattle lasted for an hour and a half before the NPA platoon retreated to safety.

The fighting was all over when additional Philippine Army troops arrived at the scene escorted by two bomber planes, an MG520 helicopter, a Huey helicopter and two armored personnel carriers.

Punishment

In a statement, Benito Tesorio Command spokesperson Ka Delio Baladon said the NPA ambush served to punish the 502nd Brigade for its long list of crimes in the course of suppressing the peasant masses’ struggle against feudal and semifeudal exploitation and for genuine land reform.

Baladon also denounced the 502nd Brigade for protecting big-time loggers in the forested areas of San Mariano, San Guillermo, Echague and Jones in Isabela.

CPP spokesperson Gregorio “Ka Roger” Rosal congratulated the Isabela Red fighters for the successful ambush, saying that it “underscores the determination of the NPA to punish the worst violators of human rights and protectors of wanton logging.”

CPP condemns Philippine Army for planting land mines in Isabela
February 13, 2005

The Communist Party of the Philippines today condemned the Philippine Army 502nd Brigade for planting self-detonating anti-personnel land mines in the forested areas of Barrio Dicamay Uno, Jones, Isabela in and around the scene of an ambush by the New People’s Army (NPA) on January 24.

The Philippine Army suffered 27 dead and three wounded in the ambush.

Citing reports from the Benito Tesorio Command, CPP spokesman Gregorio “Ka Roger” Rosal deplored the danger posed to the people in the area by the land mines, which were purposely planted along trails the masses take to reach their farms. “Aside from threatening the people’s lives, the AFP is depriving the barriofolk of the right to make a living,” said Rosal.

Rosal assailed the AFP’s use of land mines with detonating mechanisms that could be triggered by any person or animal that steps on them. “They cause immediate injury or death and are indiscriminate,” said Rosal.

According to Rosal, the CPP strictly prohibits the NPA from using self-detonating land mines and allows only command-detonated land mines aimed at specific and legitimate military targets.

The CPP also condemned the Philippine Army for “terrorizing the people of Barangay San Isidro, Jones, Isabela.” Rosal said reports reaching his office disclosed that Philippine Army soldiers were forcing their way into people’s homes in search of NPA fighters. “In at least one instance,” said Rosal, “the soldiers even forced a child to guide their military operations.”

    Who are the terrorists, indeed.
After years of only hearing U.S. and post-Marcos lies, it’s refreshing to read the other side’s story — i.e. the truth.

Love the pic. Inspiring to see these kids put it where it is.

It’s interesting that this successful NPA ambush was made possible by information from nearby residents. Also that it took place as this NPA unit was conducting a campaign against large-scale logging that has produced catastrophic floods and mudslides in this region. The NPA acts with politics in command. You may not hear about large military encounters every day, or week. But the revolutionary mass base in the countryside is growing steadily, and the 128 guerilla zones throughout the country are expanding and beginning to connect with each other. Stay tuned.

As the Vietnamese said “We are not the ones who traveled half way around the world to fight” Lenin said it best “Every person must become an armed soldier to fight agains the corrupt government if the government becomes corrupt and no longer represents class struggle and most important the liberation of the worker”. Here we see a corrupt government and the government who benifits from that corruption. The fight will never end but we can give up we must remain optemistic we must believe to destroy evil and we must unite for the benifit of all. We must stand up for justice and fight till we regain the dignity of our comrades, our brothers and sisters. One must become an INTERNATIONALIST and not a nationalist.
