Support Sue and Abdullah Webster…
punished for refusing to kill in Iraq

Sue Webster is campaigning on behalf of her husband Abdullah, an African American soldier who refused to serve in Iraq because, as a Muslim, his religion forbids him to fight in an unjust and immoral war. They are part of a global movement of military families who refuse to kill.
In June 04, a military court found Sgt. Webster guilty of failing to obey his superior’s commands. He was sentenced to 14 months in prison and given a dishonourable discharge. Amnesty International has declared him a prisoner of conscience.
Sgt. Webster was due to retire this year, and is now denied the pension he earned during 20 years in the US army. The criminal record imposed by the military court may mean that he faces problems rejoining his family in Britain.
Sgt. Webster is detained in Fort Lewis on the US west coast, far from his mother on the east coast and his English wife and children in the Midlands. He has faced abuse by other prisoners including soldiers accused of torture of Iraqi prisoners, and needs medical care. Sue has been campaigning for her husband’s release despite suffering mental stress and financial hardship.
Sue Webster addressed the the rally in Trafalgar Sq after the 19 March 2005 demonstration.
DEMANDS:
+ Immediate and unconditional release of Abdullah Webster and restoration of his pension and other benefits;
+ Proper medical care and the right to practise his religion in detention.
