Example of what not to send

This is a post I recently deleted from a sputtering nut-job. His IP is listed as well, and I think he is implying a death threat. Ooooohhhh… the laptop assassin will strike!

Who makes the worst Secretary of State? Is it better to have a smooth talking good cop who is still a snake, or a very frightening lover of the Bush doctrine who is utterly incompetent? Condoleezza Rice, Dr. Condoleezza Rice, is multi-lingual, a former provost of a major university, a figure skating champion and a classical pianist. Her bio is clearly that of a very intelligent individual, but the old adage warning against judging books by the cover must be heeded in her case.

STUFF TO DO… to help stop the war

Stan Goff

The war in Iraq is degenerating… a lot. For American troops, Iraqi police, and Iraqi civilians, the last two months have been filled with dread, death, and disfigurement. In spite of around-the-clock spin by the administration and show-dog obedience by the bouzhie-press, the reality of the war is filtering into the public’s consciousness.

Request for Money

IRAQ VETERANS AGAINST THE WAR…

…is trying to grow. They have almost 200 members, which is the problem. They need to be better able to maintain contact wiht that membership and develop the leadership to begin concentrating chapters around the country that can link with other antiwar forces.

HOW DO WE RESPOND TO THE STATEMENT…

The United States should not have invaded Iraq, but now that we are there, aren’t we responsible to clean it up and ensure that there is no bloodbath when we leave?

Birthday Reflection for Tupac

by Yolanda Carrington

Today is the thirty-fourth birthday of Tupac Amaru Shakur, a poet, actor, prolific songwriter, and rapper. As of 2005 he remains one of the most popular recording artists in American music history, right up there with Billie Holiday, Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix, and contemporaries Kurt Cobain and the Notorious B.I.G.

How Demonization is Accomplished

Michael Parenti on Milosevic

U.S. leaders profess a dedication to democracy. Yet over the past five decades, democratically elected governments—guilty of introducing redistributive economic programs or otherwise pursuing independent courses that do not properly fit into the U.S.-sponsored global free market system—have found themselves targeted by the U.S. national security state. Thus democratic governments in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Cyprus, the Dominican Republic, Greece, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Syria, Uruguay, and numerous other nations were overthrown by their respective military forces, funded and advised by the United States. The newly installed military rulers then rolled back the egalitarian reforms and opened their countries all the wider to foreign corporate investors.

The IFTU!!?? Letter to UFPJ from Jennifer Horan: My comment follows

Jennifer and I share the view – which we air out here in some detail – that support for the Iraqi Trade Union Federation, in the form of sponsoring a US tour for them, is a (monumental, in my view) error.

An open letter to the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan – on loyalty

I was a solider for most of the time between 1970 and 1996. I signed out on my retirement from 3rd Special Forces in Ft. Bragg. I had also served in 7th Special Forces, on three Ranger assignments, with Delta for almost four years, as a Cavalry Scout for a while, and in the 82nd Airborne Division as an infantryman. I started my career in Vietnam with the 173rd Airborne Brigade.

I thugged around in eight different places in East Asia, Latin America, and Africa, where I pointed guns at people. Like you, I was an instrument of American foreign policies – policies controlled, then as now, by the rich.

An old prediction

Two years ago, I wrote a little rant about George W. Bush’s asinine psoturing with the “Bring ‘em on,” comment. It appeared in Counterpunch, then made its way through the blogosphere, where it was subjected alternately to approval and ridicule.
