I read this article as well. It is definitely food for thought, and I agree with the person who said it should be distributed to a wide audience.

As a woman in our society (and in the military) I have witnessed for myself the injustices that are talked about. In my own life, rather than hoping I will not be assaulted or raped in the future, I have instead planned to make it abundantly clear to the judicial system that I was not consenting- even it that means I have to have the s**t kicked out of me by the perpetrator. I have always taken that for granted based on my own and other service women's experiences. After reading this article, it has hit once again how unfair that is to me and every other woman that we have to make sure it is provable that we were in physical danger before this crime of aggression is recognized.

I would like to do anything to help in the cause of ensuring the equal rights of rape victims. This is a subject that I will be committed to researching in the quest for my own role in the fight.

Thank you for sharing this.

This is slightly off topic, but you might care to check the STAAMP link in your list of links. It appears to go to a porn site...

Patriarchal, hierarchical sytems...must go. They have existed for far too long. The core of hatred, class-discriminatory attitudes. Now...the discussion of how to 'shed' the subtleties of what it means to be a male or female as learned/acquired thru gradual acclimation, imitation, peer pressure, etc., in a society. Find out who one really is 'without' the effects of social conditioning. Many people are concerned with 'an' image of what other people expect them to be and never really being who they really are. I'm not playing with words here. In short, we are brainwashed, now, let's start deprogramming if this hasn't already started. Mainstream therapy won't help with this.

Stan, I have just finished reading all five parts of your article. It is well-argued and eye-opening. Your conclusion that elimination of rape could be better accomplished (in the US) within the military than within the civilian legal framework is a big surprise, but I see what you mean.

This article (i.e., the whole set of five) deserves the widest possible audience and extensive public discussion. Have you brought it to the attention of military decision-makers? Have they responded? If so, what have they said?
