Yolanda is up
I am happy to annouce that my friend Yolanda Carrington has her new blog up.
This is a blog from a sister who experiences the systems we critique here, every day, on her skin so to speak. Her blog is called, not surprisingly, Gender Race Power. She is an activist here in Raliegh, a righteous sister, and a fine fierce writer.

I knew about Tuskegee, I knew about Tulsa, yet I didn’t know about Wilmington. When will there be a Truth and Reconciliation Commission in the US? Ever?
hooray Yolanda. and keep a strong heart if the trolls start flaming. it’s a serious problem for female bloggers and pundits… I don’t know if anyone has done a similar analysis for bloggers and op/ed male writers of colour to compare their hatemailbag to the hatemail sent to white males of similar visibility and leftist/pwog leanings.

If you want to see how badly the left has veered on the whole question of gender, there is an ongoing flamewar at Marxmail http://www.marxmail.org (click any of the “more”s in the “recent posts to the Marxims list” box… then click “other periods”… then click “Week beginning Monday, May 29, 2006:” Scroll down untio you find the lowermost references to “academic whoring,” then work your way up.
One sister (there are VERY few women participating in that list, because the macho debating styles and plain bullying from time to time run most women off within a short time) stated her offense at this reference to “academic whores.”
Quite an education on the state of the left, that can quote Marx and Lenin chapter and verse and has hardly a whiff of familiarity with feminist writing, theory, or practice.
Not throwing stones at them. I was there not long ago. But it’s quite revealing.

I remember long ago an anecdote — and I would really like to track down the original if it is verifiable — about a group of Italian Communists (male of course) who decided that it was a nasty feature of capitalism that “rich men get the good looking women,” and that all women should be shared equally between men in a Communist paradise.
this kind of male lefty stupidity has a long track record.

You can look for my comments here and at Yolanda’s blog. No blog of my own (yet?), and I’m not sure I’ll have one. I don’t have a home computer, nor many computer skills beyond using microsoft word, so it is not likely! But I am happy to contribute what I can to Stan and Yolanda’s blogs.
I have also worked on two sites with my friend Nikki Craft: andreadworkin.net/memorial, and hustlingtheleft.com (Note: Nikki is the computer tech person of that team, among utilizing many other skills!)
