De: Thanks much--nice to be here again! :) What I should have typed: "The meth ring has a purpose."

I'm currently struggling (VERY much) with the possibility of moving away from one of the few (potentially) viable rural communities left in Amerika. My decision has everything to do with my recent divorce and my overwhelming need to be involved in whatever is coming down the "crash-pipe" in the near future. While I believe there is an important place for sustainable rural communities, I can't seem to find any satisfaction holing-up in "Green Acres" for very long at all.

Some days I feel stupid for wanting to leave behind such a good thing, but I am a terminally restless soul.

So be it.

If there is going to be a societal collapse, I would question Mike Ruppert's decision to move to rural Oregon, or rural anywhere.

We are not living in the 1930's, when there still were
substantial numbers of farmers on the land.

The ruralities are now wide open spaces for all kinds of
anti-social behavior, and isolation is not your friend
in that scenario.

"and the distinction between the US Gummint and an organized meth ring is ...?"

This comment gives me an excuse to recommend a great book I've been reading: Shadows of War, by Carolyn Norstrom. You can download it in electronic form for $15.00. It is also available in paper/print form from the University of California Press.

Nordstrom answers in great detail the question De has asked. A simplification of that answer would be "not all that much"

Too bad this happened. People have this view of Oregon as fuzzy and liberal. Thats only really true in
Portland and Eugene and even there most everything is
bought and paid for, just like everywhere else.
