There's a book that jus came out and i highly recommend it to everyone. It may not sell as much as Glenn Beck, but it is every bit as fascinating. And more.

It is a non-fiction book with one of those long-winded titles :
" The Politics Of Cocaine : How U.S. Foreign Policy Has Created A
Thriving Drug Industry In Central And South America. " Its author
is William L. Marcy, Ph.D.

I second Robin's question. Anyone here remember the status of "cattle trails" on any military campuses?

Dear Stan,

Great post.
I have recently been intoduced to the concept of Fourth Generation Warfare. Seems crude (racist and essentialist) in Lind's hands. But if it was connected to a critical perspective on capitalism it could be interesting.
Have you commented on capitalism and fourth generation warfare anywhere?

What I want to know is, are there worn-grass, short-cut paths on the West Point campus?

Putting the paths where the people actually walk would be OODA, and that goes against the grain of "predict and control" (which is the real meaning of the planning motto "predict and provide"). It always amazes me how consistently architects -- including those who design college campuses -- manage to get the paths in exactly the wrong places.

Yes, the paths. And one place where City Hall can’t fight YOU is on a university campus. Students let Facilities Maint know where the sidewalks go.

In our relocalization group, who shows up at certain meetings is determined by the speaker topics, meeting agenda items (consequently, not everybody knows what everybody else is doing, except that we’re building an intellectual capital repository for reference). At one meeting, only two people were interested in crop gleaning for community food share, so they formed a separate group, including volunteers who aren’t particularly interested in relocalization.
