So there I was sitting with a beautiful woman eating ice cream in a beautiful outdoor cafe in the beautiful small city of Bad Säckingen.
It was a hot and sunny day but nice as long as you were in the shade.
As we were sitting there a man approached the couple at a nearby table.
The apparrenly new each other from the past. The man who walked up to the nearby table had apparently recently arrived in Germany. The man who was at the table said that he would be shortly leaving. His orders had been changed at the last minute. He was now going to be working with the FBI on AWOL apprehension. I thought to myself we should anyone care about tracking down people who go awol. I had once heard that the military is not for everyone. That it is a calling like the priesthood.
Yet when a Catholic or Anglican or Presbyterian priest go Awol they are not tracked down and placed in to a dungeon anymore. I think that went out about 300 years ago. There might still be sects around the US that track down and punsih those who leave the faith. The thing is we no longer refer to such institutions as religions anymore.
No the modern word for such institutions is CULTS.
