Please Do Not Adjust Your Set [now fixed]
We’ve had some kind of a weird malf of the WordPress database here at FS. The obvious symptom is that comments are not visible on any of our threads. The WP software thinks there are no comments on the blog as a whole. This is obviously nonsense, as the mysql backups show over 300KB of comment. So something has come unglued in the WP php layer… or there’s something wrong with the wp_comments table.
If all this is gibberish to you, then the non-geek version is “the comments are not really lost, but we are not sure why they are not showing up.” DeAnander will be working on this. We hope to get back on the air by tomorrow (July 16).

DeAnander:
This is a quick test to see whether the comment mechanism is once again working as expected.

Looks like we are back in business. We may have lost 3 comments from the blog history; the comment table was repaired with the warning
, which suggests to me a loss of three records. Whether these were the three most recent, or three oldest, or some random three records, we have no easy way to tell.

What I was wondering about is why we haven’t seen a new topic since early July! So much weirdness, so little time.
MODERATOR: Death in the family, and other overwhelming factors. Back soon.

Yes…condolences to Stan and/or De. PS—to Stan: just finished “White Like Me”. Felt pretty lousy for a few days, but am coming out of it with a better attitude (I hope!). My partner is starting to read it, and I recommended it to her grandson age 14, who has “Black Like Me” on his summer reading list in Fayetteville, NC. I told him it would rock his world…I hope!
